All Girl Avengers called A-Force?

It seems in the wave of comics trying to be more diverse than its already fantasy driven imagery (fun for boys and girls), Marvel will be releasing yet another all-girl title on its non-X side of the 616.

Mashable states:

The A-Force will consist of She-Hulk, Dazzler, Medusa, Nico Minoru and many others — including at least one new superhero, a “cosmically powered” heroine named Singularity.

Now I have no issues with diversity, but while we were all waiting for that pendulum of matriarchy dominated comics to balance, it looks like its hard swinging the other way.

Marvel has enough issues lately with weak re-hashed storylines (Red Onslaught? Secret Wars Again?) but I can only hope that SOMETHING happens during this Secret Wars that will forever alter the Marvelverse and make their comics readable without generous eye rolling.

Now don’t get me wrong. I love that they are attempting to address some of the diversity issues that have plagued comics, but it seems they are going a little overkill here. After the X-Men got an all girl roster, now this side title will have an all girl ensemble. Where will it end? Are we afraid to promote gender equal storylines because male characters have held more of the forefront for so long?

And as much as I love Dazzler… I do hope this image is just a girl pile of art and not the actual roster/cover image. Are there any female characters NOT going to be in A-Force? I’d love to see mroe Alison Blaire, but that costume is a total joke. Really? Bellbottoms and Rollerskates? Dazzler was Marvel’s first X-Spinoff that had a female lead (albiet a mostly sappy romance while being a popstar book) and she wore that silliness then too. Please tell me she’s going to be updated.

I might be out of the loop, but who is that french maid at the bottom of the image?

What do you think of the girlpower version of the Avengers? “Trying too hard” or “It’s about time!”
