Netflix Canada will be the Exclusive Carrier of Star Wars Force Awakens

Well that was convenient. Netflix Canada created a deal with Disney to allow it access to its library starting 2015 and forward to bolster its Canadian catalog. So all that shiny new Disney properties for film and TV will be available to all of us up in Canuckistasia.

But what’s coming out in 2015 that will get its 8 month from release showing that US Netflix wont get? Star Wars: The Force Awakens!

Engadget reports:

[Netflix]’s Canadian Disney agreement covers movies released in 2015 onward, which includes The Force Awakens — in the US, you’re stuck with movies debuting in 2016 or later. We certainly wouldn’t expect UK availability when even Disney’s own streaming service won’t have Star Wars movies, let alone a rival.

There is also talk of getting the previous films on Netflix, but that’s not such a big hurry. To be fair, if you are a die hard Star Wars fan you probably have 4 different media types with the films on them already.

Maybe if Netflix airs the original un-Special Edition versions it will have a draw.
