Harold Ramis Passes Away at 69

The legendary Director and Actor Harold Ramis has left the mortal plane as the result of a complication of a rare blood disease.

ABC reports:

Ramis was surrounded by family in his Chicago home, where he’s lived since 1996, when he died early this morning from complications of autoimmune inflammatory vasculitis, his wife Erica Mann Ramis told the Chicago Tribune.

Ramis is probably best known for his in-front-of-the-camera work in Ghostbusters and Stripes, but his credits span far wider behind the scenes as a writer and producer. One of his films is among my top favourite comedies of all time – Groundhog Day (with his Ghostbusters co-star Bill Murray).

There is urban legend around a potential Ghostbusters 3 which is being held back due to an alleged feud between Murray and Ramis. A pact was made between the Ghostbuster stars where a sequel could not be made until they are all in agreement. Ramis wrote a treatment, but Murray (who has his own stance on sequels to begin with) held out. It all seems small and petty now that Ramis is no longer with us. His continued work on Ghostbusters will be felt in the Ghostbuster video games.

He will be missed.
